Recipe #1: Vanilla Sweet Cream Cold Brew
This is the drink that made Starbucks famous. Rich cold brew with a slow pour of vanilla sweet cream that cascades down through the coffee. You can make it at home in under 5 minutes — and it tastes better than the $6 version.
Vanilla Sweet Cream Cold Brew
- ¾ cup cold brew concentrate (store-bought or homemade)
- ¼ cup cold filtered water
- 1 cup ice
- 2 tablespoons heavy cream
- 1 tablespoon whole milk
- ½ teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon simple syrup (optional)
- Fill a tall glass completely with ice.
- Pour cold brew concentrate and water over the ice. Stir gently.
- In a small bowl, whisk together heavy cream, milk, and vanilla extract for about 30 seconds until slightly thickened — it should coat the back of a spoon but still pour easily.
- Slowly pour the vanilla sweet cream over the back of a spoon held just above the surface of the drink so it floats on top.
- Watch it cascade down through the coffee. Do not stir — let the layers mix naturally as you drink.
